Hacchohama (Kyotango, Kyoto Region) Surfing Info and Details
This is a major surfing spot that represents the Kansai region and is the best in the Kyotango area.
Many surf contests are held here. Hacchohama’s main season is in the fall and winter, with extremely small conditions in the spring and summer. From September onwards, the chance of catching a swell increases.
From September onwards, the chance of catching a swell increases, and in January, when the northwest to northeast swells are abundant, there is a high probability of catching a belly size wave or bigger. However, considering the risk of low water temperature and snowfall, it is safer for surf trip visitors to the Japan Sea area to plan their trip from September to November, when the water temperature is high and the chance of swell increases.
Here in Hacchohama, many surfers gather not only from the local area but also from the Kansai region. It is famous as a sensitive beach break that can get up to head size when a west to north wind blows.
However, when this happens, the current can get complicated even on the inside, so beginners should be careful.
Beginners are welcome, but visitors should have good manners as this is an area with a long history of surfing and many locals.
The rocky area on the west side is a local-only point. In small conditions, this is an area with many longboarders.
