Arahama (Southern Miyagi Region) Surfing Info and Details
Arahama Beach on the south side of the mouth of the river has fun waves that can be enjoyed by beginners, and many of the waves are relatively thick and suitable for longboarding.
The Abukuma River mouth is not recommended for beginners, as the break point is far away and the current is strong, but be careful when the point breaks, as it is prohibited to go long. Arahama is known as a valuable point that can pick up swell from the west and south even in the winter when the pressure is high in the west and low in the east.
If the surrounding spots are closed due to strong swell, the beach on the far right in front of the pool is relatively easy to dodge the swell and surf. If this spot is also closed, check out the secret surf spots in Ishinomaki and Shizugawa.
